Safety First!

I had a whole agenda of things to do today. Okay, so it wasn't so much "things" as a "thing" I had planned on getting done. Part of Texas certification for teaching requires a set of fingerprints to be cleared by the FBI. I never worried about this formality. I have led a clean life and have nothing to hide. Well, I had sent in three sets of prints and was going to get a fourth set made this morning because I had not heard about the status of the last set I sent in. I contacted the state and it turns out that because of certain circumstances, they can just do a background check on me with my name. Now, what is so wrong with doing this from the beginning? Last time I checked I knew of 60 other people having this one glitch that kept their certification from being mailed to them. I even heard that one lady drove to Austin herself to get things cleared up. The part that still "gets my goat" is when I hear commercials about a shortage of teachers in the state. It is all a bunch of baloney! Thanks to "No Child Left Behind" and a former govenor like Bush, no one is allowed to teach with a bachelor's alone. All those commercials about teaching with just a degree is hogwash. If all you have is a degree, your resume gets thrown on the bottom of the pile under the "alternative certification" resumes. I know this from experience. Teaching is a noble profession, but get certified in college and avoid the nightmare of finding a job.

Enough negativity. . .

Interesting quote of today: "Patience is the companion of wisdom." -Augustine
I find this quote interesting because I have zero patience with stupid people, and yet for some reason they continue to insist on breeding. I guess there has to be a balance somewhere because without idiots, the intelligent would have no way of gaging just how smart they are, and we would not want all that arrogance wasted.

Another movie to look at today: Bewitched. I was pleasantly surprised at how well this movie was put together. A truly avid original Bewitcher will be entertained by this take on the old sitcom. What people need to understand is that it is not a remake of the show with a Samantha and Darren. It is the story of Isabel and Paul, the two people that are going to be in the remake of the show in the movie. (Confusing I know, just go see it to understand.) Will Ferrell actually acts in the movie. Don't get me wrong, I love the SNL shtick as much as the next gal, but it was cool to see him play an attractive leading man. Nicole Kidman was fantastic at displaying the naivete of a witch in a human world. My fave part was the revenge she sought after Will's character's ex-wife. The award for best acted part must go to Steve Carell for playing Paul Lynde's take on Uncle Arthur. If you don't know who Paul Lynde is, rent Bye Bye Birdie and then Carell's performance will make all the sense in the world. No sex was needed to make this a comfortable, funny, and enjoyable romantic comedy. Yes, it is a good date movie: 4 out of 5 hearts.
